WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?
I'd say camping in Cape Leveque. I'm not really the camping kind but this truly was a magical holiday: great sunsets, beautiful water and really relaxed barbecues. The beauty of that holiday was the total immersion into nature. We stayed in a simple campsite, the kind for urbanites who don't really want to be setting up their own tent, but to be honest it was the tranquillity and landscape that made the trip so memorable.
AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?
For me a great hotel isn't necessarily the most fashionable, but one where you're immediately made to feel at home and relaxed. Somewhere quiet and low key, where the design is beautiful and considered, but not imposing. The Hotel Recamier in Paris' Saint-Germain ticks all those boxes. It's our home-away-from-home in Paris.
WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?
Sometimes I feel like if I have to take another long-haul flight I'm going to scream! The one thing that helps me cope is my noise-cancelling headphones. They're perfect for losing yourself in a world of movies.
WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?
When travelling as a family, each take your own little suitcase. Oh, and always unpack - you'll relax into your holiday much sooner.
AND YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE ON HOLIDAY?
The time we went from London to Nice. We decided to go by Eurostar to Paris, then take the overnight sleeper to Nice. Natalie [my wife] and one of the girls were sick, so they were coughing all night. To make it all worse, my wallet was stolen at Nice when I was renting a car. When you're travelling with small kids, romancing the journey to a holiday is just nonsense. You've just got to get there as quickly and painlessly as you can.
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?
Paxos in Greece - simple, hot, casual, relaxed.
