Cabins in the Clouds, Vacy accommodation review: Weekend away
By Jo Bradshaw
The location
The three spa cabins in this secluded bush retreat sit on a mountain range on the outskirts of Vacy just north of the NSW Hunter Valley, at the junction of the Paterson and Allyn rivers.
The place
As you follow a steep, twisting road up the mountainside, you'll notice the views becoming progressively more stunning as you climb. Peta (pictured above), Jabiru and Tallarook spa cabins form a little cluster of private luxury at the very top. We pass no cars on the way up and see no one in the vicinity of the cabins for the entire duration of our stay.
The experience
Jabiru is a cosy, one-bedroom spa cabin with a fully-equipped kitchen, cosy, slow-combustion fire and ample-sized bathroom. With seclusion this complete, there really is nothing for it but to pour yourselves two glasses of rather good chilled fizz and climb into the hot turbo spa. Just lie back and enjoy the uninterrupted, king-of-the-world views.
Don't miss
Being in the Hunter Valley region, there are, of course, any number of interesting boutique wineries to browse in the area. The historic town of Morpeth, with its inviting cafes, pubs, galleries and antique shops, is also well worth a look.
