Cordis Auckland by Langham's new Pinnacle Tower makes it New Zealand's biggest hotel

When, not  if, the trans-Tasman bubble resumes, Cordis Auckland by Langham will be ready to welcome guests to its new addition: the 17-storey Pinnacle Tower of 244 rooms, bringing the total  to 640 and making it the largest hotel in New Zealand.

Opening October 1 and set in the heart of the city, the upper floors of the five-star hotel have views of landmarks including volcanic peak One Tree Hill, Rangitoto Island and the Harbour Bridge.

The new premium rooms and suites feature residential furnishings and interconnecting rooms for groups and families. If you're a visiting dignitary (the hotel has played host to many) the top floor Chairman's Suite offers direct-entry guest lift, marble bathroom and a private balcony with firepit.

One level down the Cordis Club Lounge is the ideal retreat for afternoon drinks and canapes or in the morning made-to-order breakfasts.

Big name hotels are increasingly drawing outside guests and here the Eight Restaurant has been expanded and the new bar Our Lands Is Alive offers NZ only food and drink.

The Maori concepts of Te Whai Ao (light before the dawn) and Kaitiakitanga (guardianship of the natural world) are behind the hotel's new art collection featuring some of the country's most prominent contemporary artists

The Art Promenade connecting the hotel and the tower is a chance to take an abstract nature walk through the city's landscape of native flora, sea and volcanoes.

Cordis is part of the five-star Langham Hospitality Group which has hotels in Sydney and Melbourne and another set to open on the Gold Coast in 2022.

Premier rooms from $NZ309 ($A295) a night. See
