Etihad Airways will introduce pyjamas for business class and a new convertible neck pillow and amenity kit for economy class on its long-haul flights between Australia to its Abu Dhabi hub.

Most airlines offer pyjamas on long-haul flights in first class but Etihad will join the ranks of the few carriers – which include Qantas Airways and Virgin Australia – that offer sleepwear to business class customers as well.

The new turn-down service will also include a mattress, slippers, a plush comforter and a full-sized pillow.

In economy class, Etihad is refreshing its planes with new cabin interiors and new colourful headrest covers, pillowcases and fleece blankets.

On its long-haul night flights it will also offer a unique pillow that converts from a standard pillow to a neck pillow to provide neck support and improved comfort.

A cotton drawstring amenity kit will also be provided which includes a reversible eye mask with "Do not disturb" on one side and "Wake me for meals" on the other.

The blanket bag will also double as a "cabin tidy" bag to help reduce clutter around the seat. It could also be used as a shoe bag or to store personal effects.

In first class, Etihad will now offer a personalised welcome letter from the cabin manager and an elegant silver-tray reception service with a welcome drink, fragrant hot towel and traditional Arab dates.

The airline has improved the quality of its chinawear, cutlery and glasses in first class, as well as in business class.

The first-class menu will now include a contemporary design, an enhanced selection of canapés, a pre-desert course served by the in-flight chef and a "Café Gourmand" coffee and tea course accompanied by mini cookies, cakes and pastries.

The first class turn-down service will now be accompanied by a "Sweet Dreams" card, an accompaniment to the all-natural bed linen, pillow mist and pulse point oil.
