Wherever Kamahl goes, there's a good cuppa nearby.

WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?

Honolulu back in 1982. I visited for three months, staying at the Royal Hawaiian, aka the Pink Palace. I performed daily at the Monarch Room and relaxed with my family, who were staying with me. It was a beautiful area and a grand hotel, and during my visit I was lucky enough to rub shoulders with entertainment royalty, such as Sammy Davis jnr, who looked dashing in a grass skirt.

AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?

I really love the Ceylon Tea Trails in Sri Lanka. It's a Relais & Chateaux resort that has colonial-era tea planters' bungalows and walking trails through the tea fields. Just beautiful.

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?

My pills, pillow and stash of tea. I used to take vitamins but have now arrived at the stage in life where it's time for preservatives.

WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?

Keep your passport and wallet as close to your body as is comfortable, although I'm not a fan of the whole bumbag thing.

WHAT WAS YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE ON HOLIDAY?

I was popping over to Sri Lanka for a spot of birthday tea, but while at Kuala Lumpur airport I left my trolley for a split second and my satchel was snatched. It was the worst birthday present ever.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

My passion in life is music so I'd love to go to Russia; the music there is very special and often comes from a place of hardship. And, of course, who could resist the chance to visit the breathtaking Winter Palace in St Petersburg.

Kamahl has recently reprised his iconic 1988 role as the face of Dilmah tea.
