Bali and beaches equal holiday bliss for Human Nature's Andrew Tierney.
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE HOLIDAY SPOT IN ASIA?
Bali, because my memories of going there for my honeymoon in 1999 are still so great. We stayed at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay and had the most amazing time. The Bali resorts treat the guests incredibly.
WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?
The first time I visited Tulum, Mexico in 2010 was just an amazing holiday. On the east coast of Mexico, it's a rustic town and mostly uncommercialised, but still with a real local charm. There are the most amazing beachside cabanas at a resort called La Zebra. I didn't wear shoes for a week, walking from beachside restaurant to beach club and swimming in picture-postcard warm, turquoise ocean. Amazing.
AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?
I love La Montage at Laguna Beach in Orange County, California. It's a little on the pricey side but so worth splurging for a special occasion. It's right on the water and has an amazing breakfast buffet.
WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?
My iPad, so I can google the best local restaurants or look at reviews of places I've discovered. Access to the web wherever you go has made it easy to never suffer a bad meal in a city you're visiting!
WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?
Pack using packing satchels, they make packing and unpacking so much easier, especially if you have to decrease your luggage weight on check in. Everything's separated in your bag so you can find it, too.
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?
Every time I see the amazing Christ the Redeemer statue in a movie or on TV, I tell myself I have to go to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil one day. I imagine it'll be an amazing experience when I finally get around to it.
