So here's the fantasy: you travel overseas, hoping to find yourself, hoping to see the world, and hoping that maybe, just maybe, you'll meet the man or woman of your dreams. You're pining for romance. You want love.

And then it happens. This amazing person enters your life and you're swept off your feet. You're in this beautiful, exotic place, sharing it with someone incredible, and you find yourself deeply in love.

It's a dream come true. It's perfect. The two of you will be this happy forever. Except … will you?

The reality of travel romances is that they're fraught with danger. Maybe you and your new crush will start driving each other crazy after a few weeks. Maybe you'll go home and realise you have nothing in common. Maybe it will slowly dawn on you that having a sexy accent and a nice tan doesn't necessarily translate to being a caring, intelligent and stable long-term partner. Romance on the road is a beautiful thing … until it's not.

On this episode of Flight of Fancy: the traveller.com.au podcast, host Ben Goundwater talks finding love while you're travelling. To properly cover this topic, he's joined by two hopeless romantics – and we mean hopeless in every sense of the word. The first is travel filmmaker Tim Charody, who once chased a girl all the way to Brazil; the second is columnist and comedian Emma Markezic, who once chased a man all the way to Canberra. Will they find love? It seems unlikely.
