When's the last time you headed off on a crazy travel adventure with a guy you met in a bar? The answer depends largely on your gender. For men, chatting to strangers in a bar is a normal part of travel, something they don't even think about. For women – well, let's just say it's a very different experience.

We rarely think about the differences in the way that men and women travel, but they definitely exist, as we discover in this episode of Flight of Fancy. Guest host Ute Junker teams up with two traveller with a healthy sense of adventure, Sue Williams and Tara Harrison, to talk about travelling while female – what's great, what's not and the little things that make all the difference.

Along the way, they share some hard-learned lessons from the road, including the surprising countries that are great for female solo travellers, how to make friends when an entire village is simply staring at you, and the items that no female traveller should leave home without.
