Australia: it might just be the perfect travel destination. There are beaches here that are up there with the world's finest. There are cosmopolitan cities that are small enough to be friendly, but big enough to have plenty to do. There are land and seascapes of almost impossible beauty, from deserts to rainforests, snowy mountains to coral reefs. There's good food, friendly people, and cold beer.

But, of course, Australia is not perfect. There are huge distances to cover. And for people who grew up in the country, it sometimes just doesn't feel exotic enough to wander around your own backyard.

So what's the answer? Should we all be holidaying in Australia or taking off to cheaper climes?

I chat with travel writers Georgia Rickard and Sheriden Rhodes who share their tips on the best experiences for travellers in Australia. There's Lord Howe Island, a tiny Australian island, said to be paradise on earth. And the Cocos Keeling Islands, a coral atoll made up of 27 tiny islands with white-sand beaches, palm trees and lagoons, with a tantalising tale of how it was founded by the Cocos Malay people.

To learn more about this sunburnt country - what parts that make it truly unique, what are the incredible attractions that you've probably never even heard of before and and more importantly, what do we do better than anywhere else in the world, listen or download this episode of Flight of Fancy: the Traveller.com.au podcast.
