Yarrawonga is located at the south-western corner of Lake Mulwala where the lake passes through the Yarrawonga Weir and flows into the Murray River. These two bodies of water form part of the state boundary with New South Wales. Mulwala is clustered along the western shore of the lake. Wedderburn - Fast Facts

Wedderburn
Quiet township which was once a goldrush boom town.
At first glance the quiet rural town of Wedderburn may appear to be no more than a small supply centre to the farmlands around town. However, it was once a populous and very rich goldmining settlement and retains one of Victoria's few remaining active goldmines (albeit a rather idiosyncratic one). In fact, the town's tourism is very much oriented to this aspect of the past. It is located 214 km north-west of Melbourne on the Calder Highway, between Inglewood and Charlton. The population is currently around 750.
