After the overriding success of the South Australian government's free travel voucher scheme, the state will introduce a second, extended round of freebies that will be available to every Australian.

The Great State Voucher program will offer visitors $100 vouchers for use at participating central city and North Adelaide stays, and $50 vouchers for regional and suburban accommodation, valued at a total of more than $2 million.

The offer is scheduled to go live on Tuesday January 5. Bookings must be made by January 31, but the vouchers can be used for travel from January 7 to March 31 2021 (excepting Saturday nights).

From 11am on Tuesday, travellers will need to log in to southaustralia.com/voucher armed with a driver's license or proof of age card.

The accommodation included in the scheme varies from luxury hotels to caravan parks. Those looking to stay in the CBD will be able to use the voucher to book accommodation at Adelaide's newest properties, such as the Majestic M Suites in North Adelaide, Tom's Court Hotel and EOS by SkyCity on Adelaide's riverbank.

Travellers should also be able to book at Hotel Indigo's first property in Australia - the Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets - which swings its doors open in early January.

During the first program, 50,000 vouchers were snapped up, injecting nearly $10 million into SA tourism.

"The first round of vouchers injected millions into our state's economy, creating tens of thousands of room night bookings and most importantly, sustaining and creating jobs in our tourism industry," SA Premier Steven Marshall said.

"This stimulus program is proven to work and with the summer holidays traditionally a peak tourism period, we're acting now to further bolster tourism businesses and get more South Australians into jobs."
