How late is too late for Egypt?

By Michael Gebicki

We plan to travel to Africa in December this year, with Egypt being an essential part of the trip for our well-travelled 11-year-old. Normally, I book flights 11 months ahead but with the strife in Egypt I can't book now. How late in the year could I book to get the flights and accommodation I want within Australian school holidays?

- M. Carton, Newtown.

December is high season for travel and if you don't book soon you might face higher prices and restricted choice. Flight Centre (flightcentre.com.au) advises that travellers are already booking for this period and those early birds are the ones who are snapping up the cheapest seats. They suggest you head in to one of their offices soon to check availability.

Since the civil unrest in Egypt, pictured, looks set to continue, it might be best left out of your travel plans. However, you could make a booking with some flexibility in the ticket to allow you to make changes in your itinerary in the event that Egypt calms down.
