Never before has so much been done to avoid the hassle and fee of changing a name on a ticket.

When his relationship broke down, Jordan Axani faced something of a dilemma about the holiday he had booked – with his ex-girlfriend – to Europe, the United States, and India, taking in Milan, Prague, Paris,New York and Delhi.

Instead of heading off on his own, or asking a friend to come along, he opted to go to Reddit, the news-aggregrator website, to seek another Canadian citizen called Elizabeth Gallagher who could take the ticket in his ex-girlfriend's place.

In his opening gambit, he explains that he booked the voyage back in March, and that since then his relationship with the previous Elizabeth Gallagher had ended.

"I am still planning on going on the trip and she is not (naturally)," he wrote.

"And because I hate the idea of a ticket around the world going to waste, I am looking for a Canadian named Elizabeth Gallagher who could use the ticket."

The journey would involve several flights in December and January, he said, and "anyone familiar with the archaic system that is modern air travel will know that a name change on a ticket is damn near impossible."

He added that "The tickets were frankly so cheap and on so many different airlines that they're not worth the headache or money to cancel."

He describes himself as "a totally normal 28-year-old guy living in Toronto," and stressed that he was "not looking for anything in return".

"I am not looking for companionship, romance, drugs, a trade, or to take selfies with you in front the Christmas Market in Prague.

"If you feel compelled to toss me a couple hundred bucks, great. Really the only thing I ask for is that you enjoy this trip and that it bring you happiness."

His ideal companion would be "sane, smart and (hopefully) interesting... have always wanted to travel" and "be ready for a rather spontaneous life experience".

But unless your name is Elizabeth Gallagher and you have a Canadian passport, you need not apply.
