Monbulk - Culture and History

The area is thought to have been occupied by the Woiwurung Aborigines prior to European settlement. Monbulk was one of three towns established by the government in the 1890s. It is the only one of the three to survive.

Tessalaar's Tulip Festival is held at Tessalaar's Bulbs from mid-September to mid-October each year (see entry below under 'Things to See') and the Silvan Food and Flower Festival at Silvan in November. The Victorian Strawberry Festival takes place at the Seville Recreation Reserve on the Monbulk-Seville Rd in November and the Rose Festival is held at Roses Galore in the last weekend of November (see entry below under 'Things to See').
