MY ONE DREAM DESTINATION IS STILL …

Author Matthew Reilly.

Author Matthew Reilly.

The Old Course at St Andrew's, in Scotland. I went there on a golfing trip in 2009, and hitting off the first tee, for a golfer, it's like playing on hallowed ground. In addition to being the ultimate destination for any golfer (and I am a devoted golfer), it is just an extraordinarily peaceful and serene place. It is like a "place out of time", one that hasn't changed in hundreds of years. Plus, I love Scotland and the Scots.

WHEN THIS IS ALL OVER I'M DREAMING OF VISITING …

Santorini. I work really hard when I write my books, so when I get away, I try to find calm and quiet places where I can just completely relax and zone out. Santorini is perfect for that and I haven't been there in ages. I'm looking forward to just sitting on a balcony at sunset overlooking the caldera, sipping a glass of wine.

MY DREAM TRAVEL BUBBLE DESTINATION IS …

New Zealand. Specifically, Queenstown. Queenstown is amazing. It's small but it's got everything: golf, hiking, restaurants, mountains, fresh air and a really healthy and relaxed vibe. I'm looking forward to eating at my two favourite restaurants there: Fergburger and Botswana Butchery.

MY DREAM DOMESTIC DESTINATION IS …

ne of those cruises off the top of Western Australia. I just think that region of Australia is truly wild and alien, and thus worth seeing. Crocs, huge tides, inland waterfalls, endless sunsets, I could go on and on.

MY DREAM DOMESTIC TRIP SO FAR HAS BEEN ...

A week at Lizard Island, Queensland. As I said earlier, when I travel, relaxation is paramount, and Lizard Island was simply perfect for that. It's small and remote enough to be quiet and peaceful, but it's big enough that you can hike and exercise, too. The only alarming thing: the warning document you find in your room about saltwater crocodiles and giant lizards in the area. But if you've read my books, you'll know I love that part of it.

Matthew Reilly's latest novel, The Two Lost Mountains (Macmillan Australia, $39.99), is the sixth in his Jack West Jnr series. See panmacmillan.com.au
