Outrigger resorts expand into new destinations

Outrigger is known for its family-friendly holiday vibes, and for bringing local culture into hotel properties before it became a trend to do so. Its founders are revered as the pioneers of modern Hawaiian tourism, establishing the resort experience in the US Pacific Island state some 70 years ago.

With six crowd-pleasing properties in Hawaii and two in Fiji, including the Outrigger Fiji that's popular with Australians, fans of the family-founded company will be able to get their fix in more locations. Outrigger is expanding, taking its ethos of "a deep respect for culture, tradition, and environmental sustainability" to other parts of the world.

Outrigger has opened four properties in Asia this year: the Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort, the Outrigger Surin Beach Resort in Phuket, the Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort and, bringing Thailand's total of Outrigger properties to three, the Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort.

Phase two of the Outrigger Koh Samui, a makeover at Manathai Koh Samui which Outrigger purchased in July 2021 has just opened, (phase one opened in August) and the whole place is now sporting a smart Hamptons-meets-colonial look. The resort, on Koh Samui's popular Lamai Beach now offers 146 fresh rooms, just in time for the Australian summer holiday season. All either have balconies or terraces.

Bathers of both the sun and water kind are spoiled for choice, with four swimming pools accompanied by the Edgewater beach club and a kids' water slide. The latter is part of a strong offering for children, with the snazzy Coral Kids Club and game room in which to keep them entertained

Never fear, it's not all about the kids and families: the property features Outrigger's Voyager 47 Club, which gives guests in premium rooms access to a lounge with all-day non-alcoholic drinks, afternoon snacks and evening cocktails with nibbles.
