Qantas has today swung the doors open to its new domestic business lounge at Melbourne Airport.

The business lounge and the Qantas Club are opening in phases as they undergo a redevelopment, with the Club opening first in May.

Both clubs will be fully functional in early November and will seat a further 20 per cent more guests.

Once completed, the business class lounge will be able to accommodate 350 people.

The lounge has a view of the tarmac and contains more seating and dining options. Designed by Woods Bagot, it reflects the chic, urban aesthetic of Melbourne.

Facilities will include Wi-Fi, work zones and wireless printing, and an increased number of power and data outlets at all seats.

Melbourne's business lounge will also include a special food concept 'Spice Bar' following the success of similar ventures interstate. The bar will serve freshly made Asian soups, noodles and street food from midday each day.

Neil Perry's seasonal menus will be also available and include breakfast plates and buffet with an emphasis on Asian dishes.

Barista-made coffee will be available all day and from midday, Australian wines and beer. Rockpool cocktails will be served from 5-6pm.

Shower suites will be supplied with ASPAR by Aurora skincare products, which are also included in amenity kits on international flights in business class.

Philip Capps, Qantas Head of Customer Product and Service Development said in a statement, "We're pleased to open the first stage of the new Business Lounge. The sophisticated design is inspired by the urban Melbourne culture and once the build is completed, we know our customers are going to enjoy the extra space and Asian-inspired dining experience."

The Lounge will be open to all Qantas passengers travelling in Business, Qantas Platinum and Platinum One members, as well as eligible oneworld Emerald, Emirates Platinum Skyward and China Eastern Platinum Eastern Miles customers.
