Qantas Perth to London non-stop flights: New international lounge for passengers at Perth Airport

As its new Perth to London non-stop flights launch, Qantas has opened its new international lounge at Perth's airport featuring unique touches aimed at passengers flying the new ultra-long-haul route.

Stretching and breathing classes, light therapy and outdoor space are among the new features the airline has introduced to help those transiting through Perth to recover from, or prepare for, the 17-hour London flight.

The first non-stop commercial flight between Australia and London takes off on Saturday evening.

Designed by David Caon and SUMU design, the lounge was also developed in consultation with the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre to create a focus on health and wellness. The Charles Perkins Centre has been involved several aspects of the new route, including the lighting, meals and climate controls on board the 787-9 Dreamliner that will fly to London.

Passengers will be able to take part in a calming stretching and breathing class at the lounge's Wellbeing Studio run by West Australian spa group Bodhi J, running every 15 minutes before and after London flights, conducted by a yoga teacher.

Those making use of the showers will also engage in light therapy in the bathroom to help them shake off jet lag.

Charles Perkins Centre Professor of Sleep Medicine, Peter Cistulli, said the bright light would help kickstart the adjustment of passengers' body clocks.

"Applying light at appropriate times helps reduce the effects of jet lag," he said.

In a first for the airline, the lounge also features a bright outdoor terrace where passengers can relax with a drink or a dish from the barbecue featuring local gourmet sausages, grilled mushrooms and corn on the cob. As with other Qantas lounges, seasonal menus are created by chef Neil Perry.

The lounge is located in the new T3/T4 integrated domestic and international passenger hub - a vast improvement over having to catch a bus from one terminal to another that passengers transiting in Perth were previously required to do.
