High on Flagstaff Hill in the Port Douglas hinterland overlooking Four Mile Beach, Villa Aman is a four-bedroom, four-bathroom haven with a magnesium swimming pool, spa, and possibly the best coastal views in the region. Yet for several years, it sat empty.

Designed by Queensland's Hunt Design, which counts Baillie Lodges, Peppers and Crystalbrook on its client roster, Villa Aman, originally known as Tanamera, was four years in the making and completed in 2005. It received a Master Builders Award for Best Luxury Residence, but its owners never got around to living in the Island Point Road property.

Sold in 2017, a third set of owners entered the picture in May this year, who asked Lennox Head-based interior designer Louise Walsh to do over the home so they could welcome paying guests to their prized perch.

Villa Aman is now a place of contemporary, luxurious comfort under beamed cathedral ceilings.

The kitchen, fitted out with luxury appliances including a Vintec wine cabinet and built-in coffee machine, was designed in collaboration with a chef to offer foodie guests their best cooking experience and to ensure an efficient, high-end kitchen for catering crews.

There's an outdoor teppanyaki grill and plenty of al fresco options.

And if the weather turns, the 180-degree glazed cantilevered day lounge with Four Mile beach, ocean and hinterland views invites the outside in most comfortably.

Villa Aman is managed by Spicers Retreats under the Private Collection by Spicers banner, which the company launched this year to showcase its quality holiday properties.

The family-owned Spicers has 10 luxury retreats, hotels and lodges across Queensland and NSW. It also operates the Scenic Rim Trail, and the collection includes 10 restaurants.
