Safari-goers have a new game-changing choice when next headed to Tanzania with the opening of Singita Sabora Tented Camp.

Set on a 141,000 hectare concession in the Serengeti, the camp has been repositioned for the best views over the plains, as well as two nearby waterholes, where zebras and other animals gather to drink.

The camp is also set on the Great Wildebeest migration route and guided game walks on foot allows guests to experience the area up close.

Nine tented suites with an earthy palette of taupe and tan by South African design partners Cécile & Boyd and GAPP Architects include glass panels that welcome the outside inside, as well as private meditation decks, secluded outdoor salas and shaded daybeds.

The main lodge area houses the Guest Deli with wicker baskets and fridges of gourmet foods for guests to select and enjoy in their suites. It's in addition to a separate pool area, two dining areas and an open-plan bar and lounge.

During the daily game drives with professional guides, expect to see cheetah, bearded wildebeest, bat eared fox, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo and leopard.

Each of Sabora's tents resting above the ground is off grid, using natural light, cross ventilation, energy-efficient lighting and solar power. The Grumeti Fund, Singita's conservation partner in the region, leads projects such as black rhino relocations and the Serengeti Girls Run in rural communities, as well as guest visits to some of the 21 villages bordering Singita.

The tented camp costs from £1,296 ($A2372) a person a night and includes full board. See singita.com
