Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge souvenir Coke bottles get OK from TSA

After a post saying the TSA had banned Disney's Star Wars-themed Coke bottles from flights, the security agency reviewed the items and gave them the all-clear.

It's OK to fly home with the Coca-Cola bottles shaped like thermal detonators sold at Disney's Galaxy's Edge, America's Transport Security Administration said on Friday.

People who want to take them home as souvenirs should put them in checked baggage or empty the cans and stick them in a carry-on item, the TSA said.

The Transportation Security Administration, which handles security at airports, had been reviewing its policy after online posts saying the bottles were banned went viral.

On Friday, TSA issued a new statement, saying, "We have completed our review, and instructed our officers to treat these as an oversized liquid."

The update comes as Disney opened Galaxy's Edge, a $US1 billion land dedicated to the "Star Wars" universe Thursday at Hollywood Studios in Orlando.

Opening day drew long lines and cheerful but tired theme park fans, some of whom arrived at the park hours before the sun rose.

It is the second Galaxy's Edge land after a similar park opened at Disneyland in California in May.
