Talking turkey in Boston

By Michael Gebicki

Three of us (mature ladies) are travelling to Boston and will be there for Thanksgiving Day. Since this is a family-oriented day, do you have any suggestions for us to experience a real Thanksgiving? It would appear that many Boston tours and attractions do not run at this time. We are committed to doing the Freedom Walk but would welcome other ideas.

- K. Collett, Artarmon.

Most Boston restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving, but you won't go hungry. Head to Open Table (opentable.com), key in November 25, Thanksgiving, and your preferred cuisine and time and the server will come back with some lively dining options. You should book as soon as possible, however. Most of the students who make up much of Boston's population will be away so this might be a good time to take a stroll around the Harvard campus in Cambridge and take in some of the wonderful buildings, including the Carpenter Centre for the Visual Arts, the only building in the US by Le Corbusier.

The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, is an insane shopping day. Stores have major sales to lure shoppers back for the start of the Christmas shopping season. Some stores open at midnight. Either join in the bargain hunting or stay well away.
