While the Commonwealth Games pulls out all the stops for a memorable closing, another door opens on the Gold Coast with the launch of The Darling hotel.

A sister property to the Darling Harbour property of the same name, The Darling Gold Coast is the premier hotel option in The Star complex on Broadbeach Island.

There are just 57 suites, which range in vastness starting at the 22 Jewel suites at 70 square metres, 21 larger Stellar suites and up to the individual penthouse deluxe suites, which feature either a separate gym, billiards or media room (take note: karaoke fiends).

With Las Vegas architects Steelman Partners behind the design, expect glossy finishes and opulent touches such as statement chandeliers, bold water features and 180-degree views of the Gold Coast.

The rooms also feature Italian linen robes by Frette and bathroom goodies by French brand Lalique.

Guest can nip across to a new rooftop bar, Nineteen at The Star, atop the five-star, 596-room Star Grand, or the new sports bar, whose outdoor terrace links the Star and the Darling – if you haven't had enough sport yet.

Jewel suites start from $1160 while the two-bedroom Penthouse suites, which face either ocean or waterways, begin at $4500 a night.
