The Gold Coast is getting a brand new hostel, and it's made entirely of sand.

Located on Kurrawa Beach, in Broadbeach near Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, the Sand will be here for a three-day only event.

The hostel is a world first, and took a whopping 24 tonnes of sand to create.

While this is not for those who hate the feel of sand between their toes or other more annoying crevices, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for those looking to spend the night somewhere a little unique.

Being a special event, staying here does not come easy. Prospective guests will have to win their night in a sand castle via Hostelworld's Facebook page.

There will also be limited spots available on their website between two accommodation spaces for guests - an 8-bed dorm, and a private double room.

Bookings for the ten places will open on Wednesday, with prices as low as $7.50 per night with food and drink included.

During the day everyone is welcome to hang out at the Gold Coast's newest venture, with live music playing into the night at the beachfront lounge area and bar.

Visitors can also partake in activities on offer such as volleyball, surf lessons, beach yoga and sculpting classes.

And if you're wondering how they've made a hostel built of sand look so incredible, you can credit production designer Jon Dowding, who's CV includes movies Mad Max and The Blue Lagoon. Denis Masoud, a world champion sand sculptor, is building the structure.

The Sand Hostel will be open to the public on the 20-22nd September.
