ORGANISING A FAMILY REUNION IN CAIRNS IN JULY 2018, ABOUT 30 PEOPLE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND REASONABLY PRICED ACCOMMODATION TO SUIT TODDLERS TO OVER 70S. D. STEPHENS, VALLEY HEIGHTS

A group this size calls for considerable planning, but since you're booking so far in advance you should be able to broker a keen deal. Get in touch with the Cairns & Tropical North Visitor Information Centre on 07 4051 3588, tell them how many rooms and what standard of accommodation you need and see what options they come up with.

I'm wondering if Port Douglas, an hour's drive north of Cairns, might be a better fit. It's a far more pleasant town in which to base yourselves, you have all the activities that Cairns offers including aquatic pursuits and trips to the outer reef and the coral islands in between. You're also closer to the Daintree Rainforest, nature cruises on the Daintree River and the spectacular Mossman Gorge, one of the glories of far north Queensland. If Port Douglas appeals, put the same proposition to the local Tourist Information Centre, 07 4099 5599.
