Travel Advice: We have four days to spend in Belgium, where should we go?

OUR TOUR ENDS IN PARIS AND ANOTHER STARTS IN ZAGREB FOUR DAYS LATER. THINKING ABOUT BRUGES AND BRUSSELS, TWO NIGHTS EACH. OTHER POSSIBILITY IS LJUBLJANA, THEN ZAGREB. TRAIN OR FLY? K. AVERY, FULLERTON COVE, NSW

Bruges and Ghent are two of the highlights of Belgium, and these would fit well into a four-day itinerary. Brussels also but two nights gives you only one full day and that is rather short for such a big city, which is why the two smaller cities might be a better fit. Train from Paris is the obvious choice. Train from Brussels to Zagreb takes over 17 hours according to Rome2rio. The non-stop flight with Brussels Airlines or Air Nostrum takes under two hours and it's cheap. Adria Airways operates a non-stop Paris-Ljubljana service and again, it's not expensive. Train from there to Zagreb takes just a couple of hours. This would be a more relaxing option than Belgium and since you're coming off one tour and joining another, with probably laundry to be done and possibly a sleep-in or two on the wish list, this might be a better choice than bouncing around Belgium.
