DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON GOOD VALUE TREKS THROUGH TORRES DEL PAINE AND PATAGONIA? IDEALLY, I WOULD LIKE TO INCLUDE THE INCA TRAIL. D. BHAVE, CAMMERAY NSW

I'd be looking to an Australia-based adventure operator and Intrepid Travel (intrepidtravel.com), World Expeditions (worldexpeditions.com.au) and Adventure World (adventureworld.com.au) are good options. Each has many years of experience operating tours in this region and can offer advice tailored specifically tailored for Australian clients. Local operators such as Chile Tour Patagonia (chiletourpatagonia.com) offer cheaper treks but they don't include travel from Santiago or Buenos Aires to Patagonia, and flights are expensive. Also, the ability to communicate through a local operator is a big plus when you're travelling to a wild and remote location.

You might look to the same operators to organise your Inca Trail trek, but timing is crucial. The most popular time to trek in Torres del Paine National Park is December to March, but January and February are the wettest months in the Andes region of Peru, and the Inca Trail is closed during February for conservation work. November is a better choice for the Inca Trail, just the beginning of the wet season, and also reasonable for Patagonia treks. Late March also works well for both.
