Traveller Q&A: Megan Park

Megan Park.

Megan Park.

Megan Park is a Melbourne-based Fashion designer

HOTEL

Galle Fort Hotel in Sri Lanka has just the right amount of relaxed luxury. We took our kids there and the staff were amazing, playing hide-and-seek with the children around the garden. At night the lights would go down over the pool and the scent of frangipani was potent in the air. It felt as if we were staying in a large family house. And the food was gorgeous.

AIRLINE

I fly with Singapore Airlines as it offers the best connections between Melbourne and India as well as great service and comfort in all classes.

My worst experience was when I was desperate to leave India; every airline was booked out. In desperation I bought a first-class ticket to London on a notorious Russian airline; it was the only option for getting home in time for Christmas. The seat was large but sadly in need of a good steam clean; dinner was sliced small goods and I was going through my vegetarian phase. Such a sad first-class experience.

RESORT

Nothing has ever surpassed my time at the Imperial Hotel in New Delhi; colonial first-class luxury at its finest. Generally, however, I prefer smaller, more boutique-style accommodation that is less about the branded toiletries and more about the setting and unique ambience of a place with some character and history.

LUGGAGE

My suitcases suggest something quite different to the idea people might have of how a fashion designer should travel. I tend to go through a new set of suitcases every year as they travel in and out of dusty Indian taxis and are definitely not guaranteed of first-class care.

ACCESSORY

I travel to Tokyo twice a year, where I always buy the most gorgeous scented incense sticks. They make a room feel like mine within minutes of arriving.
