It’s now three years since we announced our first reader tour in these pages, with many of our bespoke trips having successfully departed to all corners of the globe and with plenty more set to leave in 2020.
In that time we’ve offered a cavalcade of expert guest hosts to guide Traveller readers, from former diplomats to leading chefs, to foreign correspondents. But we’ve never offered you a whole orchestra, until now.
Our latest tour, headlined by no less than the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, is led by the experienced and knowledgeable David Slater, a leading Australian composer who is also hosting another tour this year, the sold out Traveller Tour marking the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven.
“Life, history, culture and music are all bound together. There’s no better way to experience them than on a cruise with one of the world’s greatest orchestras,” says David.
This latest tour, in partnership with Gullivers Music Travel, will take place in the lead-up to the 180th anniversary, in 2020, of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, regarded as among the world’s finest and most enduring. Led by conductor Herbert Blomstedt, the orchestra will perform concerts as part of a music-themed cruise around the Mediterranean.
In the company of your expert host David, our readers will be treated to a lineup of musical moments, including opera house performances and special music-focused talks.
We do hope you can join us on this special, not-to-be repeated sea-going salute to the world of music.
