Not so long ago, the world was your oyster. Now though, the world is most definitely not your oyster. It's barely even your mussel. This wide and wonderful Earth that used to hold such infinite possibility has shrunk in the last few months, to the point that many of us can no longer even leave our home countries.

That could be seen as a bad thing. But it could also be seen as something very, very good.

Because maybe we Australians needed a push to get out there and explore more of our own country. Maybe we needed an excuse to keep our feet on the ground and check out our own backyard, to appreciate our own culture and history, to support regional businesses and communities hit hard by virus and bushfire, to experience the true breadth of attractions that Australia has to offer, and that other people spend so much money coming to see.

Travel, right now, means staying home. And that's an exciting prospect.

On this episode of Flight of Fancy, the Traveller.com.au podcast, I chat to fellow travellers Jane Reddy and Sue Williams to take stock of a shrunken world and look at our options for travel at home.

The trio are heading into the heart of Australia, checking out regional communities and isolated attractions that you might possibly have heard of, but have probably never visited. And they're explaining why now is the perfect time to do so.
