Twelve mountain saunas with hot views

There is nothing better than a sauna after a day on the slopes to reheat the body from the inside out and soothe those worn out muscles. Not all saunas are, however, created equal. Some come with drop dead vistas of the mountains you just threw yourself down. We've collected twelve of the best saunas with a view from around the world.

You'll find Adler Mountain Lodge amongst the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Alpe di Suisi in South Tyrol, Italy. The sauna at the lodge provides a mountain vista to lose yourself in with snow covered peaks to distract you from the heat.

Alpiana Resort in the South Tyrol region of northern Italy near the spa town of Meran. The spa at the resort is over two thousand square metres and even boasts a vegan restaurant. Four saunas and a steam room offer different styles of heat treatments from infra red to a woody scented bio sauna. You'll find the best view in the Panorama Finnish Sauna with floor to ceiling glass overlooking the town and surrounding mountains.

This sauna with a difference is, like the rest of the Arctic Snow Hotel in Finland, built out of snow. The sauna utilises thick steam to heat the space made out of frozen walls and wooden benches.

The sauna at Lagazuoi Refuge in Cortina, Italy, sits at 2752 metres above sea level with a view to match. The mountain inn is between the resorts of Cortina and Val Badia and has one of the most spectacular views in the Dolomoties accessed by cable car.

The ski in ski out Hotel Chalet Dlaces is found in Val Gardena in the South Tyrol region of Italy and serves up a wellness oasis known as Lujanta. It is within here you will find the Finnish sauna with a view that will have you stay longer than the heat should really allow.

Hotel le Bristol Leukerbad in Switzerland sits opposite the famed Gemmi Pass in the Bernese Alps that connect Leukerbad to Kandersteg from Valais to Bern. Wellness at this hotel is centred around the private thermal spring that rises from two thousand metres below. The sauna provides the perfect peeping view of the snow and springs outside.

Stay in or out is the question when soaking up the heat within the sauna at Hotel Leitlhof in the Dolomites. The view is that enticing from a large picture window showcasing the jagged peaks of this famous spa region.

Choose from five saunas each with a unique element from stone to pinewood at Bio Hotel Stanglwirt near Kitzbuhel in Austria. The Kaiser sauna provides the best view and also an infusion schedule of different herbs and aromas.

The fun hotel known as Mama Thresl in the Leopold Mountains in the Austrian alps is built for active guests who like to get amongst it in the mountains. The rock heat in the panoramic sauna sits in the centre of the curvaceous room with a giant picture window that brings the outside in.

Marmotte Mountain Retreat in Chamonix is a four bedroom catered chalet near Argentiere with streams flowing on either side. The barrel sauna has a concave window for sauna goers to take in the woods and mountains outside.

Aro Ha Wellness Retreat in Glenorchy near Queenstown surprises guests with a stunning view of Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps of New Zealand from within the sauna walls. When it all gets too much you can hop into the ice cold plunge pool outside before coming back in for more.

The ski resort of Yllas in Lapland Finland offers a saunda gondola for up to four people. You can see out while heating up but no one can see in as you ride the gondola lift for up to two hours. Once you're done you can check out the 'sauna apartment' at the top of the peak with a fire place, showers, sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi.
