Food, glorious food: for some, it's the most important part of the travel experience. It's pretty much the only reason to walk out the door.

The world isn't a collection of museums, churches and art galleries for these travellers – it's a movable feast of restaurants, cafes and bars.

And there are, of course, countries that do food better than others. People travel to France just for the food. They travel to Italy, to Japan, to Vietnam and Peru purely to try the cuisine. And they might agree with that the best food in the world comes another country entirely.

On this episode of Flight of Fancy, the Traveller.com.au podcast, we talk all things gastronomic. Which country offers the best experience for foodies? Which destination best combines fine-dining with fun times?

In the first half of the episode we're geeking out on our favourite cuisines, before later we scour the globe in search of tasty tidbits, and share a few horror stories of culinary adventure gone wrong.

On this episode of Flight of Fancy, host Ben Groundwater is joined by two food-obsessed travellers to help chart the world of cuisine: Lennox Hastie, head chef at Sydney restaurant Firedoor, and Sharnee Rawson, contributing editor at Fairfax's Good Food.

Beware: this episode is sure to make you hungry.
