IHG's "millennial" brand, Hotel Indigo, has brought its funky flare to the funkiest of beach locations, Bali's Seminyak.

The new Hotel Indigo Seminyak, is, in fact, the first hotel under this particular identity to grace a resort location and the design has pulled no punches in following the Hotel Indigo ethos of reflecting the neighbourhood. Each Hotel Indigo is different, designed as a "boutique hotel that combines authentic local experiences, modern design and intimate service with the peace of mind and consistency of staying with one of the world's largest hotel groups."

In this instance, that means getting all those Bali signature things – some babi guling (suckling pig) in your belly, a massage in the reflexology rooms, a mani-pedi in the nail lounge, a snooze on your room's day bed and a dip in the ocean – all from your one glam base.

On Mesari Beach, Hotel Indigo Bali inhabits nearly five hectares of lush, landscaped grounds,

And the 270 spacious rooms and suites reflect local design. An additional 19 villas are planned like a Balinese house (only with private outdoor swimming pools, whirlpools and marble bathrooms) featuring three main areas: "Nista Mandala, a space for residents to embrace the Gods; Madya Mandala, a space to be at one with nature; and Utama Mandala a space for interpersonal relations."

The lobby space, dubbed the Neighbourhood Gallery leads to seven eateries, including, Makase is the hotel's cafe and the Pottery Cafe with its own coffee roasting machine and pottery-making workshops.

The Tree Bar does double time as a healthy choice by day and moody bar by night, while Salon Bali is the signature restaurant serving refined Balinese cuisine including degustations.

The on-the-beach SugarSand bar, which can handle 400 patrons at once, opens later this year.

Rooms from $US350. See seminyak.hotelindigo.com
