How to travel around the UK in a campervan

FLYING INTO THE UK IN SEPTEMBER FOR FOUR WEEKS OF GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH. TRAVELLING ALONE, THROUGH SCOTLAND AND ENGLAND, AVOIDING LARGE CITIES AND I WANT TO HIRE A ONE-PERSON CAMPERVAN. ANY ADVICE, AND WHAT ARE THE LIKELY COSTS? P. LOVEL, EAST BURWOOD VIC

A motorhome is a great way to take care of your accommodation plus transport needs in one easy package. For a four-week motorhome hire in September you can expect to pay somewhere in the range £1900-2350.

McRent mcrent.co.uk and Bunk Campers bunkcampers.com are just two possibilities.

Prices drop substantially in October. For example Bunk Campers charges £67.50 per day for its two-person Roadie in September but £49.50 per day in October.

An overnight stay at a caravan park will cost about £12 per night and it would be worth your while joining a club such as the Caravan and Motorhome Club caravanclub.co.uk, which has more than 200 club sites throughout Britain. Members get nightly discounts at the club's parks plus a range of other benefits including cheaper fuel.

Visit Britain, an official visitors' site visitbritain.com/au/en/plan-your-trip/accommodation/camping-caravanning-and-motor-homes, has a section devoted to motorhomes with some useful links.
