Macau figure 8 ferris wheel photos: Golden Reel is the world's freakiest observation wheel
By Craig Platt
James Packer's new Macau casino through his joint venture Melco Crown Entertainment opened last week and features what must be the freakiest ferris wheel in the world.
Rather than compete with the ever-increasing size of the observation wheels around the world (the largest opened in Las Vegas last year), the new ride takes a different shape entirely.
Studio City features the Golden Reel - a 'steampunk' themed ferris wheel in a figure eight shape. Suspended at 130 meters between two Studio City's hotel towers, the wheel features 17 cabins, each accommodating up to 10 people.
The ride is said to be inspired by a Hollywood-style tale of two asteroids careering through building's main facade, leaving a perfect "8" shape.
Tickets cost $HK100 ($A17.90). See http://www.studiocity-macau.com/en/entertainment/detail/golden-reel
