Not surprisingly, Peru's ancient wonder Machu Picchu was voted the top landmark in the world in this year's Travellers' Choice Attraction Awards.

This 15th-century Inca and UNESCO World Heritage site scored the top spot over Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre which was named second best. India's grand Taj Mahal claimed the third sport with Spain's Great Cathedral and Mosque in fourth.

Cambodia made the top ten with two ancient landmarks, Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple, coming in respectively at number six and seven.

In eight spot is Russia's Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood in St Petersburg, followed by Gettysburg National Military Park in the US.

Just squeezing into the top ten is Croatia's Ancient City Walls in Dubrovnik.

While the Australian War Memorial in Canberra was voted the number one landmark in Australia and also in the South Pacific, it failed to make travellers' world's top ten choices.

However, Australia did make the top ten travellers' choice for world parks, with Kings Park & Botanic Garden in Perth coming in at sixth spot in the global list of 10. It was voted the number one park in the South Pacific region.

Canada's Stanley Park in Vancouver was voted the top world park by travellers, but it was USA parks that dominated the top ten, taking out the second to fifth spots. Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs was voted second, Central Park in New York City third, Millennium Park in Chicago fourth and High Line in New York City fifth.

Making the top ten twice is Spain with Guell Park in Barcelona and Retiro Park (Parque del Retiro) in Madrid, at seventh and nineth spots respectively. Brazil is the only non-developed country to make the top ten with Ibirapuera Park in Sao Paulo, beating the world's love capital, Paris with Luxembourg Gardens.
