Man gets entire plane to himself: Alex Simon the only passenger on Philippines flight

Alex Simon was the only passenger on a Philippine Airlines flight from Manila to Boracay.

Alex Simon was the only passenger on a Philippine Airlines flight from Manila to Boracay.

A holidaymaker found himself unexpectedly onboard a "private jet" when no one else showed up for the flight.

Alex Simon, 28, a travel blogger from Ischgl, Austria, was stunned to discover he was the only one onboard the Philippine Airlines flight from Manila to Boracay.

Simon took a video of the bizarre experience, in which he visits the pilots in the cockpit, and jokes around with his personal flight attendants.

He told the Daily Mail when he arrived at the airport, his name was called over the loudspeaker and he was asked to make his way to the information counter.

Staff explained the flight would be leaving in 30 minutes instead of the scheduled two hours because he was the only passenger.

"I was little bit surprised and I couldn't believe it," he told the Daily Mail.

"I thought I was dreaming. Later while boarding I just realised that it's gonna be a special flight because this time I didn't even need to line up."

When he boarded the plane, he asked the flight attendant if he could take a window seat.

"She just answered, 'You can sit anywhere, because you're the only one passenger'."

Simon said he was told flights between the Philippines capital and the tourist island of Boracay were normally packed.

"It was an unforgettable feeling to take a flight to the one of the most beautiful islands of the world, but to be alone and feel like a superstar it made it more special."

Simon posted the video to his YouTube channel last February, but this week it was picked up by Digg.

But he is by no means the first passenger to experience the private jet treatment.

Last year British man Nigel Short boarded an Air Zimbabwe flight from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls to find he was the only passenger.

Despite the unlimited seating options on offer, Short chose to sit in his assigned economy seat rather than move to first or business class.
