Napkin creativity: Qantas new social campaign turns flight time into art

By Annie Dang

A napkin, a picture and #qantasblankcanvas it seems is all that Qantas passengers need to get their creative juices flowing and win.

In the month of may, passengers can create their own art mid-air using what is within reaching distance - the inflight (sick) bag located in their seat pocket, napkin or boarding pass.

Passengers can then share their travel art designs on social media using #qantasblankcanvas and also go into the entry to win a double Qantas Club pass. Winners will be revealed via the airline’s Instagram channel on May 9, 16, 23 and 30.

It's all part of Qantas’ new social media campaign, which is a collaboration with Australian freelance typographer Gemma O'Brien, who has produced a series of custom-designed bags inspired by the airline’s inflight bag and her travels with the airline.

The campaign has had mixed comments on Twitter with one person tweeting the airline is "Turning barf into art".

O’Brien’s latest artwork depicting New York is currently on display throughout the Sydney Domestic Qantas Club.
