Seven dishes to try in Huntington Beach, Southern California

SUNSHINE POKE BOWL, NORTH SHORE POKE CO

Their Sunset poke bowl is refreshing and delicious. It's light with fresh, made-to-order ahi, dried garlic and avocado over a bed of cucumber and brown rice. It's probably the closest thing to authentic Hawaiian poke in California – I probably eat it twice a week for a quick and satisfying meal.

SUMMER ZEPHYR, SESSIONS WEST COAST DELI

The Summer Zephyr is a delicious vegan sandwich with flavourful and fresh ingredients that work so well together. Marinated tomatoes, mozzarella, pickled onions, baby arugula and basil on a French roll make an unbelievably light sandwich.

CLASSIC BURGER, HURRICANES BAR & GRILL

The perfect simplicity combined with quality ingredients is what makes the Classic Hurricane burger the most delicious burger in Huntington Beach. The meat is high quality, perfectly seasoned, and it's all topped off with thousand island dressing, which is the only complement it needs. Perfection. See hurricanesbargrill.com

SUSHI, BEAR FLAG FISH CO

Their sushi is Huntington Beach's best-kept secret. The freshly caught seafood makes for flavours that blend well and complement one another. This is really the quintessential beach seafood experience in Orange County, plus, the sushi bar typically has seats open because everyone's out on the patio.

BUZZY ROLL, SUSHI ON FIRE

The Buzzy roll on the special menu is my favourite. It's super light with no rice and it's full of flavour. The roll is delicious yet healthful with shrimp salad, avocado, and yamagobo, wrapped in tuna and topped with creamy sauce and chilli oil.

GROUND LAMB MEATBALLS, WATERTABLE

This restaurant has the best bar foods. My go-to dish is the ground lamb meatballs, which come with mojo verde sauce. This is a great way to add flavour without adding extra calories. This change-of-pace appetiser is beautifully spiced and savoury.

SEASALT WOODFIRE GRILL

Smoked Santa Maria tri tip and linguisa – It's the best tri tip south of Santa Maria because it's cooked by pitmasters directly from Santa Maria. It's simply seasoned, cooked perfectly, and will just melt in your mouth.
