The location The top end of Collins Street is Melbourne at its most elegant. With many beautiful Victorian buildings and some of the city's most fashionable cafes and shops, it's not for nothing that this is known as "the Paris end" of Collins Street.

The place The Sofitel is a modern, elegant hotel, deserving of its five stars. Some rooms look all the way across to the bay, while all have stunning city views. Creative decor adds personality, and service is warm and professional.

The experience Many of the city's highlights are within strolling distance, while others, such as the National Gallery and the Botanic Gardens, are a few minutes away by tram. Walking down the Collins Street hill offers world-class window shopping, and venturing into nearby lanes will reward with eclectic dining choices.

Don't miss The Royal Botanic Gardens, about 15 minutes away by tram, are a wonderful oasis of green. The Regent Theatre (1300 111 011) is at the bottom of the hill and worth a visit as much for its opulent period d├ęcor as the show on offer.
