The Creek House, Timboon accommodation review: Weekend away

The location

A short drive inland from Port Campbell and the Great Ocean Road, Timboon lies in the midst of prime Western District farmland. The hamlet sits on a pretty turn of the road and straddles a small creek. A timber footbridge, built by students from the local college, adds a touch of romance.

The place

Behind the picturesque Timboon Toy Box toy shop, The Creek House is a stylishly remodelled self-contained cottage. Its white walls, adorned with striking poster art, and the almost black flooring lend a sense of space that is very much complemented by the greenery viewed through the windows, and from the deck that overlooks the creek. Homely comfort is the essence here, and the temptation to linger past the allotted departure time is strong.

The experience

The op shop next door provides reading matter, a bit of local gossip and advice on the area's must-see sights. The ever-diminishing Twelve Apostles feature on the list, as does Horseshoe Bay, with its striking cliff-face, followed by the drive back along the same stunning stretch of coastline. Also on the list: the Timboon Cheese Factory, where an extensive array of wares awaits to delight the tastebuds.

Don't miss

Try the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery for lunch, a glass of single-malt whisky or a tasting of the local ice-cream, or The Fat Cow cafe for cake and great coffee. Leave time for a hike or bike ride along Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail to burn off the excesses of Timboon's gourmet indulgences.
