Hollywood's A-list has a new place to stay when visiting the Big Apple. The Greenwich Hotel, co-owned by legendary actor Robert De Niro, recently opened its new Tribeca Penthouse in New York's Tribeca neighbourhood.

The enormous space, the interior of which covers a whopping 260 square metres, features a Japanese aesthetic and makes use of local materials such as stone and reclaimed wood, to integrate the design into the former industrial area, in keeping with the Japanese art of Wabi - a view that embraces imperfection and authenticity.

There are two huge living areas, one for entertaining, the other offering a more meditative experience. There are also three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms (including a steam room and a bath restored from what was once a cow's trough - it's nicer than it sounds) and a full-size chef's kitchen.

But what about entertaining all those A-listers? For that, guests can make use of their private rooftop terrace, covering another 372 square metres across two levels with views to the Hudson River, lush gardens with wisteria-wrapped pergolas (no doubt helpful for obscuring oneself from any paparazzi on the rooftops of neighbouring buildings), multiple seating and dining areas, a spa pool, a large gas grill, and an outdoor wood-burning fireplace.

The boutique Greenwich Hotel opened in 2008 and features 88 rooms, with no two rooms the same. The design elements include artworks by Robert De Niro's father, a noted painter and the subject of a recent HBO documentary.
