The location Adelaide is the capital of what South Australian number plates trumpeted for many years as The Festival State. Home to the Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe and WOMADelaide, this city boasts culture at every turn.
The place The Sebel Playford is conveniently located at the northern border of the CBD, a short walk from Rundle Mall, replete with 700 retailers, the Adelaide Festival Centre (adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au), the Convention Centre (adelaidecc.com.au) and Skycity Casino (adelaidecasino.com.au). Nearby, too, are cinemas, the River Torrens, Adelaide Oval, the botanic gardens and the zoo. With all this at your doorstep, there can barely be any time to use the hotel's heated indoor pool, spa, sauna or gym.
The experience Opting for a Loft Suite provides extra space plus a kitchenette with microwave, but the cheaper versions have a "limited" view (or what could be called "no view at all"). Still, disappointment over no outlook was quickly erased by a night in the dreamily comfortable king-size bed. Hotel staff were delightful, but the room did seem expensive for what it was. The fact it was awarded "Best Breakfast Restaurant" at the 2012 SA Restaurant & Catering Awards softens that blow, too.
Don't miss Say hello to Wang Wang and Funi, the giant pandas at Adelaide Zoo (zoossa.com.au/adelaide-zoo). The suburb of Hyde Park, just south of the city, is the perfect spot for those who like to break up their boutique shopping with a gourmet meal or coffee. If some wine tasting is in order, the Adelaide Hills are barely 30 minutes' drive from the CBD, McLaren Vale about 45 minutes, the Barossa Valley just over an hour and Clare Valley an hour and three-quarters. Cheers to that.
