Tinder at the snow: How to find your perfect date on a ski holiday

Ladies if you're looking for love in a snow town then the odds are definitely in your favour. More men than women ski and snowboard (roughly 60:40 percentage breakdown) and in some towns, it can be up to seven men per woman come peak season.

It's enough to have you grab your lip balm and head to the hills (skis or no skis) right? Before you get too hasty be warned there's a saying in ski towns, 'the odds may be good but the goods are usually odd'.

Why? Because Peter Pan is definitely alive and skiing or snowboarding at a resort near you and of course, he's single. You'll find him with Tinkerbell at the bar next to Benjamin Button lost in Never Never Land in the pursuit of youth, theirs and others, on a forever winter cycle.

Like more resort style destinations, ski towns operate within a fantasy bubble. The town economy relies on that bubble as it is what lures holiday makers looking to escape the reality of day-to-day life with some time out throwing themselves like a super hero down a slope and living to tell the tale.

No one wants to be reminded of work and mortgages when on vacation. Some don't even want to be reminded they have a spouse so beware the 'single above the snowline' married human. While you're looking for love they've left their wedding ring in the glove box of their car and are looking for a one-night lover.

I should know, I've been hit on more by married men at the snow than I have back home in the city. It must be the altitude or the fifth martini. Either way it only ends in tears, yours or their spouse's, so don't go there. You'll be able to tell the by the indent on their ring finger.

Of course it is not impossible to find long time love at the snow resorts, it just takes some patience, sleuthing and geo tagging. Thanks to dating and social apps like Tinder and Bumble you can set your profile to collect data of other singles within a pre-determined catchment area from where you are currently sitting.

Throw your Tinder net out for a five-kilometre radius from the bar stool on which you're sitting at Hotham or Thredbo and start swiping right. Anyone you catch as a 'match' is pretty much guaranteed to be single, like skiing either or snowboarding, and is already saying they are available for dating.

No more 3.00am gropes through Jaiger bomb eyes while your feet stick to the floor at The General or The Kelller. Instead you can meet on the slopes for a ski, chat on the chairlift, look for any tell tale Peter Pan signs and decide if you want to meet up for après later.
