I BOOKED A QATAR AIRWAYS FLIGHT FROM DOHA TO ATHENS AND HAVE JUST NOTICED ON FLIGHT RADAR THAT THIS FLIGHT TRAVELS THROUGH IRAQI AND SYRIAN AIRSPACE. I THOUGHT FLIGHTS OVER THESE COUNTRIES HAD STOPPED BUT IT SEEMS ONLY CERTAIN CARRIERS HAVE. ON THE ADVICE OF SMART TRAVELLER I CONTACTED THE CARRIER TWICE BUT HAD NO RESPONSE, BUT I DO FIND THIS UNSETTLING. WHAT MAKES A ROUTE SAFE FOR ONE CARRIER BUT NOT FOR ANOTHER? SHOULD YOU BE ABLE TO CANCEL A TICKET IF YOU BELIEVE THE AIRLINE IS PUTTING YOU AT RISK? J. SINGH, MELBOURNE
