The world has been given its first glimpse of the new Star Wars themed "R2D2 jet".

There is a great quote from Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, that goes along the lines of "Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them", but when it comes to the unveiling of Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) Star Wars aircraft, fans can see the 'truth' in all its glorious wonder.

In an event, that took place in Washington over the weekend, the world was given its first real glimpse of the "R2D2 jet," a Star Wars themed Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, complete with commentary from two very special guests.

As the plane was unveiled, fans were treated to all the beeps and squeaks of R2-D2 and C-3PO as the duo watched on.

First announced to the world in April this year, ANA's Star Wars aircraft is due for its maiden passenger flight on October 18, 2015, when it travels from Tokyo, Japan to Vancouver, Canada.

At the time of its first announcement in April, ANA said they were using the aircraft as a way to "enhance its international presence".

"Although it's a lofty goal, we hope that like Star Wars, ANA will become well known and loved across all borders and generations," Takashi Shiki, an ANA executive vice president, said.

Film representatives also took a global view.

"We're proud of the innovative R2-D2 design, and we look forward to witnessing the first-ever flight of a passenger aircraft featuring a Star Wars character," said Kayleen Walters, Vice President, Marketing for Lucasfilm.

"We're confident that Star Wars fans around the world will absolutely love this design."
